The English Teaching Department of BAIBÜ Faculty of Education hosted a workshop titled "Effective Lesson Plan Design" on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. The event, held in Green Hall-C and conducted by Prof. Dr. Anıl Rakıcıoğlu-Söylemez, was organized in response to requests from teacher candidates taking the Teaching Practice II course.
During the workshop, participants had the opportunity to examine critical elements of lesson planning including warm-up, presentation, practice, production, and contingency plan (Plan B) through both theoretical and practical examples. Brainstorming sessions arranged in small groups allowed participants to develop their own lesson plan drafts in real-time. The contingency plan section, aimed at producing quick solutions to unexpected problems, stood out as one of the most beneficial applications according to participants.
39 people participated in the evaluation survey, with an average overall satisfaction score of 4.87. Other criteria such as relevance to professional needs and timing/flow also received high scores ranging from 4.79 to 4.87. Participants requested that future workshops address topics such as examples of activities, technology-supported teaching applications, and project/drama-based learning.
When feedback forms were analyzed, hands-on lesson plan preparation, group work sessions, and developing Plan B processes were emphasized as being instructive. Participants expressed that covering topics such as technology-supported material preparation, project-based applications, language teaching through drama, and classroom management would also be beneficial in future events.
